Getting around by MTR

1. Buy an Octopus card: The Octopus card is a rechargeable smart card that can be used to pay for fares on the MTR and other forms of public transport in Hong Kong.

2. Plan your journey: You can plan your journey by visiting https://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/main/index.html or mobile app. Enter your starting station and destination to get information on the route, fare, and estimated travel time. Seek help from your hotel front desk in identifying the MTR station and exit nearest to the place you wish to visit.

3. Enter the MTR station: To go through the turnstiles at the MTR station, look for the Octopus logo at the entry gate and tap your card against it. (If you’re not using an Octopus card, see Note below.)

4. Board the train: Check the MTR system map and look for the line that you need to take. Board the train heading in the direction of your destination.

5. Exit the station: When you arrive at your destination station, follow the signs to the exits. Tap your Octopus card on the card reader on the turnstile. Look for the exit nearest to the place you wish to visit.

Note: You may also take the MTR using a single journey ticket. You can buy this ticket at the stations just before you reach the turnstiles.
